The latest film from 1917 director Sam Mendes, Empire Of Light, is being released in the UK on 13th January 2023.
Sam Mendes’ latest film boasts an impressive cast, including Olivia Colman, Michael Ward, Tom Brooke, Crystal Clarke, Toby Jones and Colin Firth. It has also reunited him with Skyfall and 1917 cinematographer Roger Deakins, who won an Academy Award for his work on the latter of those films.
Empire Of Light is a romantic drama that Mendes also wrote. So far we know that it’s set in and around an old cinema in a town on the South coast of England in the 1980s. It is the first screenplay that Mendes has written solo, after co-writing 1917 with Krysty Wilson-Cairns.
Principal photography on the film took place in February in Margate, Kent, so we can expect some picturesque seaside views.
