Back to Black will chart the meteoric rise and tragic fall of one of this century’s most talented artists, Amy Winehouse.

Sam Taylor-Johnson, director of Nowhere Boy and Fifty Shades Of Grey, has set her next project, a biopic charting the life of Amy Winehouse, the celebrated British singer who tragically died at just 27. Studiocanal is backing the project which reportedly has the full support of the Winehouse estate.

Casting will likely be one of the big stories around this project, with the hunt for the actor who will portray Winehouse reportedly yet to begin. Matt Greenhalgh, who also penned Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool has written the script that Taylor-Johnson will direct.

The project comes in the wake of 2015’s Amy, a searing documentary by Asif Kapadia that drew several pointed conclusions as to who lay at fault for Winehouse’s tragic fall. Whether the upcoming film adaptation will chart a similar path remains to be seen. We’ll bring you more on this one as we hear it.
