Samuel L Jackson is the second name announced to feature in the big-screen animated take on the beloved lazy feline Garfield.

Not content with taking on the voice of the iconic Italian plumber in the new Super Mario Bros movie, Chris Pratt will also be lending his voice to the big screen reboot of Garfield. Although that news surfaced back in November of last year, very little is known about the project at this point, but we do now have more casting news with the announcement that Samuel L Jackson will also be joining the film.

Alcon Entertainment’s take on the character (that won’t involve Bill Murray) has cast Jackson in the role of Vic, Garfield’s father, a new character created for this film. You can now add Samuel L Jackson voicing a cat to the (admittedly long) list of things that we didn’t know we wanted but now can’t live without.

Based on the feline who sprung to comic strip fame in the late 1970s courtesy of of Jim Davis, the new film will be directed by Mark Dindal, who made the The Emperor’s New Groove. David Reynolds, the scribe behind Finding Nemo will be handling script duties.

There’s no synopsis or release date for the movie as of yet, although we do know that Double Negative will be handling the animation side of the film. No word yet on the rest of the voice cast either, but we’ll bring you more news on this one as we hear it.
