David Arquette will join Neve Campbell in returning to the Scream franchise for the upcoming Scream 5, it’s been announced.

Nearly a decade since the release of Scream 4, and the wheels look like they’re now finally turning on a fifth movie in the franchise. We already known that the directors of the terrific Ready Or Not – Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett – are directing this one. Furthermore, that James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick have penned the screenplay.

It’s the first Scream movie to be made since the world lost the director of the first four, Wes Craven. And clearly great lengths are being gone to in order to honour and respect Craven’s work.

Not least the recruiting of original cast members. We already known that Neve Campbell is back for the new film. Now comes the news that David Arquette will be returning to the role of Dewey in the film too.

As per a statement he’s quoted in. “I am thrilled to be playing Dewey again and to reunite with my Scream family, old and new”, he said.

Scream has been such a big part of my life, and for both the fans and myself, I look forward to honouring Wes Craven’s legacy”.

The new film is set to shoot later this year, if all goes to plan. That points to a release in 2021. More as we hear it.
