Scream 5 – or Scream, as we’re confusingly going to have to call it – has its first trailer: you can see it right here.

Arriving in cinemas next January is the brand new film in the Scream franchise. It’s called, well, Scream, in spite of being the fifth movie in the boxset. Furthermore, it’s effectively the second attempt to bring the series back to life on the big screen, following the belated Scream 4 all those years ago.

This time, the movie is in the hands of directorial duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who previously gave us the outstanding Ready Or Not. They’ve brought back some old faces from the series, and introduced some new ones. And the first trailer for the new film is out there now.

It looks like this…

Here’s the synopsis…

Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past. Neve Campbell (“Sidney Prescott”), Courteney Cox (“Gale Weathers”) and David Arquette (“Dewey Riley”) return to their iconic roles in Scream alongside Melissa Barrera, Kyle Gallner, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Dylan Minnette, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Marley Shelton, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Sonia Ammar.

January 14th is the date to mark in your diaries. If it works, expect many more sequels…
