A fifth Scream movie is set to be pressing ahead.

The ever-enduring Scream franchise began with a  hugely successful trilogy of movies. Then there was a gap before we got Scream 4, that fell short at the box office. That ended any immediate hopes of Scream 5, although instead MTV made three seasons of a Scream TV series.

Now we learn that Spyglass Media has picked up the rights to make more movies, and that’s just what it intends to do. The plan is to take the franchise back to its roots with the new film, although it’s unclear if it’ll continue the story of the same characters. Writer Kevin Williamson isn’t returning for the new film.

Nor, of course, will the late, great Wes Craven, who helmed all four movies.

It sounds like the project is in its early days, and more advanced is Spyglass’ remake/reboot of the Hellraiser films.

More news on the new Scream as we hear it.
