As studios veer away from feature-packed DVD and Blu-rays, Second Sight is on the lookout for recent titles to give the special edition treatment to.

As we talk about in the next issue of Film Stories magazine (landing towards the end of the month), Second Sight is one of the disc labels in the UK that’s been helping lift the standard of special edition releases. In particular, it deserves extra credit for picking up relatively recent films that had previously had a quite plain disc release – Upgrade and Anna And The Apocalypse – and delivering really strong, extras-packed editions of them.

Now we learn that the company has picked up the rights to release a proper disc edition of the superb 2016 movie Under The Shadow, from director Babak Anvari.

Chris Holden of Second Sight told The Raygun newsletter of the company’s plans, saying that “With VOD becoming the focus for many distributors we saw an opportunity to start picking up physical rights on more recent productions”.

“We have traditionally been associated with older library titles but for us this is a natural progression in a changing market. The titles we are picking up would always fit in the Second Sight catalogue but we’d usually be acquiring them some years down the line. We are now looking to explore titles that have had earned instant cult status with releases such as Upgrade and Anna And The Apocalypse and have a lot more planned for the new year”

We look forward to hearing more. In the meantime, Under The Shadow is out on February 10th, and available to preorder here. We’ll leave you with the box art…
