Showcase Cinemas becomes the first mainstream multiplex chain in the UK to launch a home video on demand service of its own.
Well, here’s a sign of the times right here. Showcase Cinemas has been one of the chains in England quickest to reopen its doors, yet it’s also hedging its bets a little should it take a while for us visiting public to return in anything like the numbers the company needs.
As such, to run alongside its theatrical business, Showcase has now launched a video on demand service. It’s brought together titles from a mix of big and smaller distributors, and there’s some interesting titles here you don’t always see so prominently listed
Pricing is pretty much in line with everyone else though, with rentals around the £4.49 mark for new releases, cheaper for more niche stuff. And you can have an explore for yourself over here.
We wonder if this is the start of other cinema chains trying something similar. For now, we’ll watch Showcase’s experiment with interest.
