It’s been revealed that a documentary feature about the late Sidney Poitier is already over a year into production, with the involvement of his family.

Last Friday, we got the sad news that a genuine Hollywood legend had left us. The irreplaceable Sidney Poitier died at his home at the age of 94, leaving behind not just an incredible body of work, but many barriers bashed down too.

A few days on, we learn that a documentary of his story is in the midst of being made too, one that’s inevitably taken on a poignant turn in the light of Poitier’s passing. The documentary is no cash-in: it’s half-way through production, and is being directed by Reginald Hudlin. Oprah Winfrey is one of its executive producers.

Apple is backing the film too, and it’ll be releasing it via its platforms in due course. By the sounds of it, there’s still some way to go on the film, which has been in production for over a year, with the involvement of the Poitier family. As we hear more on the documentary we’ll let you know.

As for Poitier himself? What a loss. Rest in peace sir, and a huge, huge thank you for everything.
