Sister Act 3 may finally be going ahead – and Whoopi Goldberg will be involved with the film if it gets the greenlight.

Well, here’s a surprise we didn’t see coming: there’s a new Sister Act movie under discussion, and Whoopi Goldeberg is involved.

Perhaps it shouldn’t be a surprise. The stage musical of Sister Act has been a huge hit, and furthermore, Disney has been digging into its archive for new Disney+ productions. But even so, there hadn’t been a whisper of a new film since 2015, when a remake was being considered (although Goldberg has expressed interest in the project since, including saying she’d like to direct).

Goldberg, though, was James Corden’s guest on the US Late, Late Show overnight. And when he asked her about a Sister Act 3, and why a further sequel had never happened?

“Because for a long time, they kept saying no one wanted to see it”, Goldberg told him. “Then quite recently it turns out, that that may not be true. People may want to see it. So we’re working diligently to try to figure out how to get the gang together and come back”.

It’s got Disney+ written all over it this one, and whilst the project has a long way to go, don’t be surprised if it comes to life over the next year or two.

Here’s the interview.
