Brad Peyton will be bringing the successful videogame series Sniper Elite to the big screen, it’s been announced.

The videogame series Sniper Elite is the next to make the jump to the big screen, with the news that the movie is on its way from Rebellion. We’ve covered the investment in film and TV production that Oxfordshire-based Rebellion has made in some detail in Film Stories issue 23, and Sniper Elite is set to be a sizeable movie for the firm.

Furthermore, it’s attracted the talents of director Brad Peyton, who previously has helmed San Andreas and the Rampage movie, both of which starred Dwayne Johnson. Peyton will also be penning the script for the film, along with Gary Graham.

As per the official announcement, Peyton said that “there’s so much tension and character in this story, the potential for taut, exciting action is all there. What’s amazing about Sniper Elite is its focus on stealth and strategy, but also fun and incredible twists. I can’t wait for audiences to follow and care for a hero that will have to face the most dangerous and challenging mission of his life”.

The film itself will be a thriller billed as The Bourne Identity meets Sherlock Holmes, with characters caught on the ground as bombs fall in London.

No word on casting or just when the movie will start filming, but as we hear more, we’ll let you know.
