Sony sells another of its anticipated animated films to a streaming service, in a reported nine-figure deal this time around.

UPDATE: Amazon has now concluded this deal, and announced that Hotel Transylvania: Transformania will be going live on its Prime Video service from January 14th 2022. As expected too, no sign of Adam Sandler involved in this one…

From August 2021.

Sony Pictures Animation is in the midst of a terrific run of films, from Spider-Men: Into The SpiderVerse and The Mitchells Vs The Machines through to the recent Vivo. The latter two movies though have been sold to Netflix, as Sony seemingly loses confidence in sending family movies to cinemas. Its live action Cinderella is heading to Amazon this autumn as well.

And now we learn that even the robust Hotel Transylvania franchise isn’t immune. The fourth film in the series, Hotel Transylvania 4: Transformania has been put back a few times now, and now we learn that Sony is in talks with Amazon to offload the film.

It’s set to be quite a deal though, with a figure of around $100m for the sale of the movie being banded around. When the purchase goes through, it’s likely to mean that the planned October release date for the feature will be adjusted, although none of this has been confirmed as of yet. And that’ll bring this particular franchise to a close.

More as we hear it.
