Sony’s Cinderella heading to Amazon in September

Sony’s planned summer release for its new Cinderella movie is off, as it sells the film to Amazon’s Prime Video service.

Sony has elected to sell Cinderella, its upcoming live action musical version of the classic fairy tale, instead of pushing through with a summer release as originally planned. Amazon Prime has instead acquired the project and now confirmed that the movie will be with us in September.

A crowded theatrical market is said to be the key factor behind Sony’s decision, with lots of summer blockbusters and family films, suggesting that the studio was perhaps worried that Cinderella may get lost amid such high-profile films and intense competition.

The film, which was set to release next month, is directed by Blockers' Kay Canon, and she wrote the script too.  Camila Cabello stars in the title role, with James Corden, Billy Porter, Idina Menzel, Pierce Brosnan, Minnie Driver and Missy Elliott also featuring.

We’ll leave you with a pair of new images from the film, that Amazon has now released…
