The highly anticipated animated sequel to Into the Spider-Verse will also be coming in two parts, it has been revealed.

Released in 2018, the animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a smash success, not only proving that Sony could still make a great Spider-Man movie without Marvel’s assistance (following the mixed receptions to the Andrew Garfield films,) but also winning an Oscar for Best Animated Feature. If you ask this writer, Miles Morales’ turn as the Webhead is without doubt the best Spidey film ever made, and that’s saying something, as there are some strong contenders.

Now, we have a release date for the sequel, alongside a trailer.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will arrive less than a year from now on October 7, 2022. What’s more, the film will be a two-parter, with the follow-up landing in 2023, as revealed by producers, Chris Lord and Phil Miller: “Miles’ story is an epic. We wrote what we thought the story needed to be, and to our surprise we realised it was two movies instead of one. We’re working on them both as we speak. Part Two will be out sometime in 2023. We will sleep again in 2024.”

You can catch your first glimpse at the film below.

We’ll leave you with the official synopsis:

Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar®-winning Spider-Verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.
