Sandra Bullock, Keanu Reeves, Dennis Hopper and a bus that can’t go below 50: Speed is heading to the 4K disc format in the UK.

And about time too. One of a series of 1990s films that’s surely a workout for any half decent home cinema system is Jan De Bont’s Speed. It was, of course, the movie that turned Keanu Reeves into an action star, and it also gave Sandra Bullock her highest profile role at the time, following work in The Vanishing and the sublime Demolition Man.

Speed was put out by 20th Century Fox, and the announcement that it’s now coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray is welcome for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, because it’s Speed. Secondly, because it means Fox’s new owners – Disney – is reopening its commitment to physical releases of catalogue movie titles.

The 4K disc then will be with us on May 17th in the UK. It’s carrying over the supplements from the previous Blu-ray release, which will also be bundled in with the package. What’s more, the movie is available to preorder on the 4K format now.
