The Spice Girls are reportedly looking for writers for a Spice World: The Movie sequel to celebrate it’s 25th anniversary.
This one is an odd one, as it seems more rumour than fact, but apparently the remaining 4 members of girl group Spice Girls are apparently looking for screenwriters for a sequel to the box office success (but critically maligned) Spice World The Movie.
It will be the 25th anniversary of the film next year and rumours first reported by The Sun website yesterday are that they want to do some form of sequel to celebrate the momentous occasion. It’s hard to know how much truth there is to this one, with the band not confirming anything currently. They have reunited on a number of occasions since their initial end in 2000, most recently a countrywide tour in 2019.
Spice World: The Movie follows the girl group on a wild tale of adventures as they travel the globe in their double decker tour bus. Along the way they encounter haunted houses and even aliens. The film was a huge success on it’s release back when Spice Mania was in full flow. It’s not faired as well critically over the years, and currently sits at number #65 on IMDBs Bottom 100 films of all time. Seems a little harsh.
It’s unlikely Victoria Beckham (aka Posh Spice) will return, but lets hope Richard E Grant might return as the groups manager. Would you want to see the girls, or more importantly that amazing bus, return to the big screen in the modern age?
Spice World: The Movie isn’t currently streaming anywhere, so if you gave away your treasured neon green VHS cassette, you might be out of luck if you wanted a rewatch anytime soon. (Though there do seem to be a few hanging around on Ebay…)
