With a nod to Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert, Stage Mother heads to UK cinemas at the end of this month – and here’s the trailer for the film.

Altitude continues to push new films towards cinemas this month, with the latest to be announced being Stage Mother. It stars Jacki Weaver, Lucy Liu, Adrian Grenier and Jackie Beat, and it tells the story of a conservative Texas church choir director who inherits a drag club from her late son.

Described as a ‘heartwarming and uplifting musical comedy drama’ and with touchstones including The Adventures Of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert and The Birdcage, the film is from director Thom Fitzgerald. Here’s the US trailer for the film, to give you a flavour as to what’s in store…

And the synopsis reads…

When conservative, Texas church-choir director Maybelline (Jacki Weaver) inherits her recently deceased son’s drag club, she surprises her closed-minded husband and everyone else she knows by moving alone to San Francisco to save the club from bankruptcy. In this raucous, racy new environment, she begins to open up and find new meaning for her life, even becoming a mother-figure to the club’s flamboyant performers until a surprise visit threatens to upend her new life. A dance in your seat, music-infused comedy-drama that boasts a fiery supporting cast, including Lucy Liu, Adrian Grenier, Mya Taylor and drag superstar Jackie Beat.

The film is set for UK cinemas on July 24th.
