Star Wars: fans now want a four hour Revenge Of The Sith cut

Following the news of the Snyder Cut of Justice League coming, now there’s a fan petition wanting a longer version of Revenge Of The Sith.

Well, there’s a feeling that the floodgates may be about to open. Warner Bros’ decision to give Zack Snyder tens of millions of dollars to put together his version of 2017’s Justice League has been widely reported over the last week.

That’s going to be heading to the HBO Max service in 2021, and already, Suicide Squad director David Ayer has indicated he’d be very open to putting together his cut of that production.

Now, fans have zeroed in on George Lucas’ final movie as director, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith. They’ve decided that they want to see the original four hour plus cut of the film that Lucas assembled, and have started a petition to encourage its release. Over 15,000 people had signed it within hours of it going live.

It’s hard to see it succeeding, though. Lucas was entirely an independent filmmaker when he made Revenge Of The Sith, and the final cut was his. Furthermore, a four hour first cut isn’t uncommon for a feature, before the editing process brings it down to the final running time.

Still, no snark or aiming brickbats here. This strikes us as a positive way to ask for something, even if we can’t see it succeeding at all. Expect several petitions of this ilk to spring up for an assortment of films. If you want to add your name to this one, you can find it here.
