Director J D Dillard is hired to make a Star Wars movie.

We’re in the early stages of a three year gap between Star Wars movies, following the conclusion of the Skywalker saga with last winter’s Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker.

Disney, concerned it was mildly murdering one of its golden geese, opted to relax the release schedule for Star Wars, and there’s now breathing space to re-establish which direction it’s all going on the big screen.

We thus far know that Rian Johnson is developing a new trilogy of films, although his immediate commitment appears to be to at least one Knives Out sequel. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige is also overseeing a Star Wars film. Elsewhere, other projects appear to have come and gone, with Game Of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D B Weiss walking away from their agreement to make a Star Wars movie.

Now we learn though of a filmmaker or two who are interested. Director J D Dillard and writer Matt Owens have been hired to develop a new Star Wars production, although it’s not clear if their movie will be for cinema release or the Disney+ service.

Dillard wrote and directed Sleigh, whilst Owens was a writer on Luke Cage and Agents Of SHIELD.

No further details have been revealed thus far. The next Star Wars film for the big screen is set for release on December 16th 2022.
