Dominic Cooke is to bring Follies to the big screen.

With the big screen take on Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s musical Cats primed to be one of the biggest release this Christmas, we now hear of another musical that’s set to get the movie treatment.

Heyday Films and BBC Films are coming together for a film based on Stephen Sondheim’s hit musical, Follies. It’s set to be directed by Dominic Cooke (who staged an acclaimed production of the show at the National Theatre back in 2017). Cooke also recently directed the movie On Chesil Beach, a production well worth seeking out.

James Goldman wrote the book for the musical, with Sondheim writing the music. No casting has thus far been announced, just that Heyman and Rosie Alison will be producing.

As we hear more – including any news of a release date – we’ll let you know.
