Steve Guttenberg on Three Men & A Baby, Police Academy sequels

Don’t expect Steve Guttenberg in the new Three Men & A Baby reboot – but Police Academy 8 might just be a different matter.

Actor Steve Guttenberg has been doing a bunch of interviews recently, and has inevitably found himself being asked about some of his favourite roles of yesteryear. Specifically, whether any plans are afoot to reprise them.

At the moment, for instance, Disney is working away on a reboot of Three Men & A Baby, and for some time there was a third in that run of movies planned, in which Guttenberg would have returned. That would have been Three Men & A Bride, a project that’s long dead. Guttenberg, chatting to The List, admitted that he knows “nothing about it” when asked about the reboot. Zac Efron is starring.

That said, Guttenberg admitted when asked about a further film with his Three Men co-stars Ted Danson and Tom Selleck that “I would love to do Three Grandpas And A Baby. I really like those two fellows and they will be my friends forever”.

On a return for a future Police Academy movie, Guttenberg held out a little more hope.  “I suspect you haven’t seen the last of my Mahoney”, he said of his character in that franchise. No further details were offered, but it feels cyclical we get stories of a possible Police Academy revival, and just maybe this time one is on the way.
