The legendary director Steven Spielberg filmed a music video on a mobile phone in a single shot: and it’s here.

Here’s something a bit different. A lot of directors start off directing music videos before going on to helm feature films. David Slade directed a multitude of music videos before making disturbing thriller Hard Candy, as did Jonathan Glazer before making the astonishing Sexy Beast.

However, this news has come entirely out of the blue – Steven Spielberg directed the video for Marcus Mumford’s Cannibal. Mumford posted on his Instagram page:

On Sunday 3rd July in a high school gym in New York, Steven Spielberg directed his first music video, in one shot, on his phone. Kate Capshaw was the almighty dolly grip. I’ve been overwhelmed by the support of the people around me to bring this music to you, and I cannot hope to express all of my gratitude. When people get it, it blows my mind. Kate and Steven just got it, and I cannot thank them enough. Thank you Kate. Thank you Kristie. Thank you Steven.

As if that wasn’t enough, Carey Mulligan, Mumford’s wife, was on costume and sound duties.

Whether this is the beginning of a new career for Spielberg in music videos remains to be seen. Watch the video below:
