It’s 50 years since Dennis Weaver and a huge truck did battle – and a 50th anniversary release of Steven Spielberg’s Duel is incoming.

Here’s a story for a certain generation of people who needed a reminder of just how, er, young they are. The debut feature film from a director by the name of Steven Spielberg has reached its 50th birthday this year. And if you’ve never had the pleasure, then Duel is quite, quite brilliant. It stars Dennis Weaver and a bloody big truck, with the latter gunning for the former.

And you know what? There are some who felt, given the tension he managed to wring out of a very simple setup, that this Spielberg fella could potentially go far.

The 50th anniversary of the film is being marked by a Blu-ray reissue too. It’s due on May 31st, and from what we can tell it carries across extra features from the last disc release. But exclusive to this is also a new sleeve design and a fold-out double-sided artwork poster from Graham Humphreys.

You can find out more about the release and order yourself a copy here. And, genuinely, if you’ve not seen this one, it’s really, really worth seeking out.
