The Oscar-nominated remake of West Side Story, directed by Steven Spielberg, is coming to Disney+ on 2nd March.

Good news for anyone still wanting to see Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story – it’s coming to Disney+ on 2nd March. Following the recent trend for shorter theatrical windows and earlier streaming releases, this is sure to please anyone who may have missed it in the cinema.

Yesterday, it was announced that the film has picked up seven Academy Award nominations. These include Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actress for Ariana DeBose. Now, the acclaimed film joins many of Disney’s recent releases on its streaming platform, Variety reports. Marvel’s The Eternals made its debut in January, and coincidentally the Ralph Fiennes-led The Kings Man is available to stream from today.

In the US, the film will be streaming on HBO Max and Disney+, due to a deal that allows WarnerMedia streaming rights to a selection of Fox films. The deal will last until the end of 2022.

West Side Story has been consistently praised, especially its cast, which includes DeBose, David Alvarez, Mike Faist, Ansel Elgort, and Rachel Zegler. The film marks Zegler’s feature film debut, which she will follow up by playing the lead role in a live-action adaptation of Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs.

Spielberg’s next film will be The Fabelmans, a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age drama. It will be loosely based on Spielberg’s childhood in Arizona, and is set for release later this year.

West Side Story is available to stream on Disney+ from 2nd March.
