Superman: Henry Cavill’s return won’t be Man Of Steel 2

Warner Bros has no active plans for a new standalone Superman movie, in spite of wanting Henry Cavill back for more movies in the role.

Well, a bit of a disappointment this. News broke earlier this week that Henry Cavill was back in talks with Warner Bros about reprising the role of Superman in upcoming DC productions. This immediately induced digitally-altered facial expressions, as the thought of him being given a second crack at a standalone Superman movie – after Man Of Steel – was a very welcome one.

But it turns out that’s not the current plan. Deadline reports that there are currently no plans in progress for a new Superman film, with the idea being instead that Cavill will reprise the character across small appearances in future DC movies. Which projects they are is unclear at this stage.

It’s a pity, though. Warner Bros and DC continue to struggle to crack a Superman movie, but whatever your thoughts of Man Of Steel, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and Justice League, it’s hard to fault Cavill in any of them.

We wait and see what happens next. But for now, it feels just a little bit as you were. More as we hear it.
