Sylvester Stallone confirms Rocky Balboa will not return in Creed 3

Rocky Balboa, as played by Sylvester Stallone, appears to have finally hung up his gloves, as a further return in the upcoming Creed 3 is ruled out.

As we reported recently, we know that Sylvester Stallone has been working on a treatment for a Rocky prequel series, exploring the salad days of Rocky Balboa, that he hopes one of the streaming services will pick up. However, whilst one end of the Italian Stallion’s career may be getting the long form treatment, the other end appears to finally be over after a distinguished career spanning two franchises.

Michael B Jordan is both directing and starring in Creed III which is certainly great news, but Stallone has confirmed via Instagram that he won’t be in the film, stating the following:

creed iii stallone

This confirms what he’d said following the release of Creed II a few years’ back.

Whilst this certainly doesn’t rule out Stallone returning for Creed IV or even V, there’s certainly a good chance we may have seen Stallone play Rocky Balboa for the final time. Unless he does return for a future film or perhaps a cameo in a framing device for the proposed Rocky  prequel series (as Harrison Ford once did for The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles).

Note that his post too doesn’t mention the once-rumoured Rocky VII eitherAlthough that one seems like a long shot, even for Rocky.

We’ll keep you posted as we hear more…
