The Alpinist is not the documentary you’re looking for if you don’t have a head for heights: more details here.
As someone who’s not entirely over watching Free Solo, the free-climbing documentary that must have been flat-out terrifying on an IMAX screen (it certainly was on my telly), The Alpinist looks like another fresh test of nerves.
It’s a documentary that’s been picked up for distribution in the UK by Dogwoof, about solo climber Marc-Andre Leclerc. Without safety ropes or anything that might seem common sense to a humble idiot like me, he climbs mountains pretty much out of the limelight. Until documentary maker Peter Mortimer had a go at keeping up with him.
The resultant film will be arriving in UK cinemas on September 24th. Even the trailer is giving me the shakes, in truth. Take a look at it here..
I’m off for a sit down.
