Robert Pattinson is spotted as Bruce Wayne on the streets of London, as The Batman gets underway.
It’s taken some time to sort out the future of Warner Bros and DC’s most lucrative big screen superhero, but finally, Batman’s first standalone film since 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises is filming.
Batman has, of course, been part of a broader DC ensemble of heroes in recent times, with Ben Affleck debuting his take on the role in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Affleck for some time was linked with directing a standalone movie, but since then, he’s vacated the director’s chair, and he’s vacated the cape and cowl as well.
In his place? Matt Reeves (who helmed the last two Planet Of The Apes movies) is in the director’s chair, whilst Robert Pattinson has taken over as Bruce Wayne/Batman. And filming began on The Batman in London this week, with Pattinson spotted on location. Thus far, only in Bruce Wayne guise.
You don’t have to look far to find the images online, but as we don’t have the rights to run them, we’re not. Instead, here’s director Matt Reeves basically confirming via Twitter that Colin Farrell is playing Oswald Cobblepot and possibly The Penguin in the new film.
The Batman is set for release in the summer of 2021. Expect a lot of set location pics and a formal start of production press announcement in due course.
