The Batman officially starts filming

Robert Pattinson is spotted as Bruce Wayne on the streets of London, as The Batman gets underway.

It’s taken some time to sort out the future of Warner Bros and DC’s most lucrative big screen superhero, but finally, Batman’s first standalone film since 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises is filming.

Batman has, of course, been part of a broader DC ensemble of heroes in recent times, with Ben Affleck debuting his take on the role in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Affleck for some time was linked with directing a standalone movie, but since then, he’s vacated the director’s chair, and he’s vacated the cape and cowl as well.

In his place? Matt Reeves (who helmed the last two Planet Of The Apes movies) is in the director’s chair, whilst Robert Pattinson has taken over as Bruce Wayne/Batman. And filming began on The Batman in London this three weeks ago, with Pattinson spotted on location. Thus far, only in Bruce Wayne guise.

That said, it’s only now that director Matt Reeves has confirmed the official start of production on the movie. He took to his Twitter feed to announce the news…

The Batman is set for release in the summer of 2021. Expect a lot of set location pics and a formal start of production press announcement in due course. Here’s Reeves’ Tweet from earlier in th eyear…
