The brilliant Ready Or Not getting fast-tracked DVD release in the US – but not the UK

Ready Or Not’s home releases start in November in the US, but next year in Britain.

Comfortably one of the best mainstream films of the last couple of months has been Ready Or Not, that stars Samara Weaving as a young bride who has to go through ‘a fair amount’ when she sits down to play a game with her new in-laws. Written by Guy Busick and Ryan Murphy, and directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the film packs more into under 100 minutes than most manage in far longer.

The film was a modest box office success, but feels like it’s just the kind of movie that could thrive on home formats. Yet there’s a disparity in the film’s US and UK disc release dates.

Notwithstanding the fact that there was a month between the US and UK cinema release, it now looks as though there’s going to be three months between home unveilings.

In the States, Ready Or Not is getting a fast-tracked release, with a digital version going on sale from November 6th, and the DVD and Blu-ray following on December 3rd. In the UK, we hear that the release date for the disc – and it looks like it’s going to be DVD only, with no Blu-ray – has been set for February 10th 2020.

The movie is well worth watching whether you import or not. But that’s a sizeable and very puzzling gap between releases. It’s up for preorder now, and the UK link is here.
