New period drama The Dig is to start filming shortly.

Heading into production this month is a new period drama by the name of The Dig. It’s based on the book by John Preston, and tells the story of an archaeological dig that took place in Suffolk, back in the 1930s. It turns out to be no ordinary dig, and the book – and presumably film – will gradually build to the discoveries found within it.

Moira Buffini has adapted the book for the screen, and behind the camera is Simon Stone, who’ll direct.

In terms of casting, the lead roles have gone to Nicole Kidman and Ralph Fiennes, and the pair of them will be shooting the movie in the UK for the next two months.

No word yet on a release date, but it’s fair bet we’ll see The Dig in 2020.
