A scheme where you can purchase a new release to watch at home, whilst also helping independent cinemas who are struggling to keep going.

Heading into cinemas – at least the ones that are open – this weekend is an acclaimed new British film by the name of Perfect 10. We’ve covered the trailer for the film here, but it’s worth noting separately we felt that it’s a release trying to support independent cinemas that are struggling in the current climate.

Distributor 606 Distribution is releasing the movie via something known as Virtual Cinema. Thus, from this weekend, if you can’t get to a local cinema to see the movie, you can rend it and support a cinema at the same time. That the revenue from the rental will be shared on a 50/50 basis between 606 and the cinema you choose from those available. The full list is available on the specially-created website here.

A few distributors have supported the virtual cinema idea, and it strikes us as a good half-way house for indie movieplexes and distributors. Do consider supporting it if you can.
