The Expendables series may just be giving Jason Statham the lead in its next movie.

Since the third movie in the franchise fell commercially a little short of its predecessors, The Expendables movie franchise has been in a fair amount of flux. There was talk at one stage of a female-led ensemble action movie, The Expendabelles. There was chatter about a full The Expendables 4. And there was also talk about a television series too. To date, none of these things have happened.

But now there’s a further project to add to the roster: a spin-off movie featuring The Statham’s character, Lee Christmas.

According to The Illuminerdi, the new film will be called The Expendables: A Christmas Story, and Max Adams has penned the script for it. Furthermore, D J Caruso, who helmed the last xXx movie, has been offered the chance to direct the feature.

If the film goes ahead, then Sylvester Stallone is likely to take a supporting role in the movie. If all goes to plan, then filming will begin before the summer.

No official confirmation of the project yet, and it’s just rumour for the time being. But an interesting rumour nonetheless.

We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
