Jason Statham and Sylvester Stallone are set to star in a new The Expendables spin-off movie.

Since the not very well received, PG-13-rated The Expendables 3, there’ve been a few attempts to do a little bit more with the action franchise. Sylvester Stallone at one point toyed with a fourth movie, with a female-driven spin-off The Expendabelles, and a potential spin-off TV series as well. None of those have happened.

The film that’s bubbled to the top though is a spin-off for Jason Statham’s Lee Christmas character, and that’s now pressing ahead. The news that filming is set to start was broken by Sylvester Stallone on his Instagram feed, where he confirmed that shooting was starting in October and that he’s off to film a role in it.

The temporary working title for the film is Christmas Story. What we don’t have at the moment are details of a director or the rest of the cast, but we’ll keep you posted as we hear more. In the meantime, here’s Stallone’s post confirming that the new film is moving forward…
