The Muppet Christmas Carol has its missing song back, and is back in cinemas – with a Disney+ release imminent as well.

This year marks, incredibly, the 30th anniversary of one of the finest festive films of all time: The Muppet Christmas Carol. The movie is getting its now-regular round of festive singalong screenings too, and is now showing at cinemas around the UK.

But also, as had been revealed last year, a complete version of the movie is also nearly with us again.

You may be familiar with the story: that in the original cut of the film, there was the full version of the song ‘When Love Is Gone’, that was hacked out of the movie as the insistence of then-Disney chief Jeffrey Katzenberg.

The song was restored for the subsequently VHS release and has popped up on the old Laserdisc version too. But since then, it’s gone, seemingly lost, until it was revealed last year that the song had been found in the vaults and was being restored.

Now, it’s been announced that Disney will be bringing a 4K remastered fully complete version of The Muppet Christmas Carol will be heading to Disney+ this December. Specifically, December 11th. And director Brian Henson has been involved in the new version.

Even better: the version that’s heading back into UK cinemas this weekend also features the song too. It’s playing in venues around the UK.

It feels like Christmas…
