The Goonies is set for a brand new disc release, including landing on the Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray format for the very first time.

Certain people reading this story are about to feel old. Incredibly, in a year that’s hardly shy when it comes to film anniversaries, the much-loved The Goonies reaches 35 years old this weekend. Yikes.

There had been, we understand, a plan to release the film in cinemas again to mark the occasion, but for fairly obvious reasons, that won’t be happening.

What is happening is the film’s first release in the Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray format, and preorders for the release have started popping up in Europe and America. They point to a release in September, with the UK one of the few territories to thus far not list it yet. But it seems certain it’ll be arriving around the same time here.

Look too for a fresh Blu-ray release around the same time as well, and in the US, a collectors’ giftset has been announced that looks like this…

When we get the details of the UK release, we’ll let you know. And a very happy birthday to The Goonies for this weekend…
