The trailer for Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel, starring Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Adam Driver and Jodie Comer has been released.

It’s been four years since we last saw a feature film from from acclaimed director Ridley Scott (All The Money In The World) but 2021 sees that changing with two high profile releases, the first of which we finally have a trailer for.

The Last Duel is based on a true historical story that saw King Charles VI declare that Knight Jean de Carrouges settle his dispute with his squire by challenging him to a duel. Matt Damon (Le Mans ’66) and Jodie Comer (Killing Eve) play Jean & Marguerite de Carrouges whilst Adam Driver (Marriage Story) plays squire Jacques LeGris whom Marguerite has accused. Ben Affleck (The Way Back) plays King Charles VI.

It’s an exciting film for Comer fans, who has previously been more known for her television work, winning multiple accolades for her role in Killing Eve. The Last Duel and Free Guy see her about to make her stamp on the big screen, with the trailer showing her hold her own against Oscar nominated stars Damon and Driver.

The film doesn’t just mark a return to the big screen for Scott, but also the re-teaming of stars Affleck and Damon who also co-wrote the screenplay for The Last Duel together with Nicole Holofcener, based on Eric Jager’s book. The pair rose to prominence in the late 90s with their script for Good Will Hunting which won them the Best Original Screenplay Award at the 70th Academy Awards and whilst they have appeared on the big screen together since, this is the first joint writing project for the pair since.

Based on the trailer it doesn’t look as though the duo will share much screen time, rather Damon and Driver who will be facing off against one another in the this duel for honour and truth. Take a look at that trailer underneath the film’s new poster.

The Last Duel is set to release in the UK on the 15th October 2021.
