The Netflix/BBC co-adaptation of a Luther film rounds out its cast ahead of a November shoot: this one is finally coming together.

With shooting set to begin in a couple of months, the cast for the Luther movie is coming together nicely. Idris Elba will return to the title role that, alongside his turn in The Wire, put him on the map. The film will reportedly continue the story of Elba’s police detective that has already been told across five series of television.

Neil Cross, who has created and written the show,  has penned the script. Jamie Payne, who directed the show’s last season, will helm the project. Now, we have some casting news too. Cynthia Erivo and Andy Serkis have both joined the cast, with the nature of their roles also being announced.

In the film, ‘Luther will have to contend with a double threat. Erivo is playing a detective who is also Luther’s nemesis while Serkis is the story’s criminal villain.’

It’s certainly casting that we like. Both Erivo and Serkis enrich any project they attach themselves to, and as such, our anticipation for the Luther movie just went up another notch.

We’ll bring you more as we hear it with regards to this one. We’re expecting a release in 2022 for it.
