The Meg, with The Statham

Battle will recommence between Jason Statham and a Megalodon in The Meg 2 – which is now confirmed for August 2023.

Filming has been underway now for a few weeks on the follow up to 2018’s The Meg. That was the movie that saw Jason Statham do battle with an enormous sea creature, in what turned out to be a surprisingly tame PG-13-rated effort. A hugely successful one though, grossing over half a billion dollars at the global box office. That, in turn, twisted the arms of movie bosses into giving it a sequel.

The Meg 2 has a new director, with Ben Wheatley helming his first outright blockbuster movie. The Statham of course returns to do battle with seafood, and Sienna Guillory, Skyler Samuels, Cliff Curtis and Shuya Sophia Cai amongst the ensemble.

Filming is taking place at Leavesden in the UK, and the movie goes by the title Meg 2: The Trench. And – the point of this story! – we now have a release date. Warner Bros has inked the movie in for an August 4th 2023 cinema bow, and I have every intention of being there on that day to see the film.

More as we hear it.
