The Meg 2 shores up its cast

The Meg, with The Statham

Jason Statham is doing battle with an underwater menace of size again, and he’s got a fresh ensemble to back him up.

Filming got underway a week or two back on The Meg 2, the second attempt to make a classic movie where Jason Statham goes to war with a massive sea creature. The first Meg was decent enough, but didn’t fully realise the joy the concept offered. Arguably, it never got better than its quite wonderful trailer. Hopefully, chapter two will ramp things up.

The movie this time is shooting primarily in the UK, with The Statham once again leading the ensemble. Now we learn too that Sienna Guillory, Skyler Samuels and Sergio Peris-Mencheta are the fresh meat to be added to the film’s menu.

They join returnees Page Kennedy, Shuya Sophia Cai and Cliff Curtis.

Behind the camera this time is Ben Wheatley, making his long-promised jump into big blockbuster cinema (something he’s been talking about for some time). The plan is for the film to be in cinemas in 2023, although we don’t as yet have a formal release date.

Fingers crossed that this one delivers. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more…
