The new Home Alone film lands its lead cast

Archie Yates, Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney sign up for the new Home Alone – and more details are right here.

Sounds like there’s a bit of momentum behind this one now. Earlier this year, it was revealed that Disney was looking to cherry pick films from the 20th Century Fox archive – that it now owns – for a series of reboots/remakes/belated sequels that it’s designing for its Disney+ streaming service.

Chief amongst those films is Home Alone, and a new take on the movie is now heading into production early next year.

Furthermore, we’ve got casting details too.

Archie Yates, fresh from taking the lead in Taika Waititi’s acclaimed Jojo Rabbit, is to head up the cast. Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney will be playing a husband and wife in the film, who are trying to save themselves from financial meltdown, and thus do battle with a child who’s pinched a priceless heirloom.

The script has been written by Streeter Seidell and Mikey Day, and Dirty Grandpa helmer Dan Mazer is directing the new film.

Filming begins in Canada at the start of 2020, and the plan presumably is to have the new Home Alone on the Disney+ service for this time next year.

More as we hear it.
