The Resident Evil movie reboot to be more horror-driven

British director Johannes Roberts has been chatting about his upcoming movie take on Resident Evil.

It’s all change behind the scenes of the Resident Evil movie franchise, with one British director departing, and another coming on board.

Paul W S Anderson, of course, has pretty much overseen the movies – and directed most of them – since they first came to the screen. He’s handed the baton over to Johannes Roberts, whose new movie, 47 Meters Down: Unchanged, has just opened in the US.

Roberts has been promoting his new movie, and the subject of Resident Evil has come up, as you might expect. And chatting to Screen Rant, he’s revealed that the plan is to veer away from the action tone of the last few films and go for the horror instead.

“I pitched them a take, and they really loved it”, Roberts said. “So we are just gearing up on that as we speak, really. I’m in the office all the time there. So, yeah, it’s great. It’s going to be super scary. It’s super, super scary. And it’s just getting back to the roots of the game”.

He admitted he couldn’t say much more about the project at the moment, but did tease that “it’s going to be a lot of fun”.

No release or production date is known thus far.
