The new The River Wild is described as a ‘reimagining’ of the original, the cast and creative team have now been confirmed.

The River Wild was a solid success for Universal Pictures back in 1994. Grossing over $90 million on a $45 million budget, the film was a rare foray into action thriller territory for Meryl Streep, and one of the first big hits for director Curtis Hanson.

The synopsis of the remake reads as follows:

A brother and sister who love but distrust each other, embark on a white-water rafting trip with a small group, including the siblings’ childhood friend, who turns out to be more dangerous than he appears.

Taran Killam and Leighton Meester will play the brother and sister, with Adam Brody playing the friend.

Ben Ketai, who penned the screenplays to horror sequels 30 Days Of Night: Dark Days and The Strangers: Prey At Night, will direct from a script he co-wrote with Mike Nguyen Le.

The film is currently shooting in Hungary. You can see the first production still over at Deadline
