Dwayne Johnson refrains from revealing which video game he’s bringing to life, but the internet certainly has its theories.

Dwayne Johnson always has a number of projects on his slate, but one particular tease from the actor has the internet speculating wildly about a future film that Johnson is looking to move into development.

In an interview with Men’s JournalJohnson revealed that he’s looking to get a video game adaptation off the ground, although he refrained from revealing which particular game that might be. We’re going to take a wild swing and guess he isn’t talking about a Doom sequel here, and as such, the actor’s description that it’s one of the “biggest, most badass games” ever released points directly to an adaptation of God Of War, the mythological action series that follows Kratos, the titular warlike deity.

Said Johnson, when responding to a question on about video games: “I’ve always been a big Madden fan. I can’t tell you which game in particular we’re doing, but there will be an announcement this year. We’re going to bring one of the biggest, most badass games to the screen – one that I’ve played for years. I’m really excited to bring it to fans around the world. Of course we’re going to do right by our gamer friends – but really we’re just going to make a great movie.”

Whilst it’s just speculation at the moment, this tracks in a couple of ways: firstly, not many actors have the physique to pull off a convincing Kratos, but The Rock, whose mammoth shoulder-span surely sometimes place him on two continents at once, has the body.

Secondly, we know Sony have been pushing its PlayStation Studios banner hard over the last couple of years, drawing in A-list talent such as Tom Holland, Mark Wahlberg and Chad Stahelski to take on adaptations of its first-party titles like Uncharted and Ghost of Tsushima. God of War is undoubtedly one of PlayStation’s most recognisable and cinematic properties and as such, this has to be a clear favourite.

It’s either that, or The Rock is a fan of the ZX Spectrum favourite Jet Set Willy. Time will tell. We’ll let you know when we hear something concrete.
