The Shawshank Redemption gets 4K restoration and cinema rerelease

Frank Darabont’s 1994 masterpiece The Shawshank Redemption has been restored in 4K and is showing in Vue cinemas from Friday 18th March. 

Stephen King adaptation The Shawshank Redemption will be back in cinemas in the UK and Ireland after being restored in 4K. Vue cinemas will be screening the classic film, often considered one of the best of all time, from Friday 18th March.

The restoration, performed by Warner Bros., features a new 4K scan of the original 35mm camera negative. The process was supervised by director Frank Darabont and cinematographer Roger Deakins.

I’m sure many of you know that the film is incredibly acclaimed, receiving seven Oscar nominations in 1995. It’s hard to forget the wonderful performances of Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman as Andy Dufresne and Red, respectively. It’s easily one of the most heartfelt and memorable films ever made.
