John Carpenter’s The Thing is getting a 4K disc release, with both a standard and a posh version of the set on the way.

It’s been rumoured for a long, long time, but Universal has finally confirmed that John Carpenter’s classic The Thing is getting a 4K Ultra HD release this autumn.

The film, which had already been announced elsewhere in the world on the format, will be getting its 4K bow on September 20th here in the UK. What’s more, it’s going to be available in two different versions.

The cheapest will be the standard release, that’ll come with the film on both 4K and Blu-ray discs, as well as extra features that we think are copied over from the previous Blu. You can find that here.

At the more premium end of price tags is the limited collector’s edition, that also comes with posh packaging, and the film’s soundtrack too. Plus a bonus disc of extras (although again, these seem to be carried over). You can find that version here, although you’re paying twice the price for it.

Both are up for preorder now.
