John Carpenter looks to be involved in a new telling of The Thing story, with Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions.

It’s pretty well known that John Carpenter’s classic 1982 horror The Thing is itself already a remake. Then, in 2011, there was a more expensive remake/reboot, that didn’t involve John Carpenter. It wasn’t a terrible film, but neither could it lay as much as a glove on the previous two movies.

Now though comes the news that there’s yet another take on the material potentially on the way – and the news this time has come directly from Carpenter himself.

He was chatting to Variety about the upcoming Halloween movies that he’s been working on with director David Gordon Green and producer Jason Blum. And in that conversation, he was asked if there was a temptation to direct a film for Blumhouse himself.

His answer? “I don’t know about that”, crucially adding that “we’ve talked about – I think he’s going to be working on The Thing, rebooting The Thing. I’m involved with that, maybe. Down the road”.

Whether that’s related to this project, reported back at the start of the year, remains to be seen. Bit we’ll keep you posted as we hear more…
