Amazon Prime is set to snap up the Chris Pratt-headlined The Tomorrow War from Paramount Pictures.

Paramount Pictures, having already cashed a cheque for $125m for the sale of the film Coming 2 America to Amazon and its Prime Video service, is now auctioning off another of its blockbusters.

This time it’s The Tomorrow War starring Chris Pratt, and it’s a science fiction film from director Chris McKay (The LEGO Batman Movie). Pratt plays a man who’s drafted in to fight a future war, and it’s just the kind of sci-fi standalone blockbuster that we don’t seem to get so much of on the big screen.

Given present circumstances, it’s perhaps unsurprising that Paramount is again looking to offload one of its riskier ventures, a film it’s made with Skydance.

It looks like this is going to be the most expensive sale from a studio to a streamer to date as well, with Deadline reporting that Amazon Prime Video is leading the pack. Its bid? $200m, and the deal still isn’t done.

We’ll keep you posted as we hear more, but it sounds like a case of when this gets sold now rather than if.
