The Urban Legend horror franchise is getting a reboot

Urban Legend 4 is getting the go-ahead, as the horror franchise gets the modern day reboot treatment.

With a fifth Scream film on the way and I Know What You Did Last Summer getting a television reboot, the next 90s horror franchise to get a fresh outing looks like being Urban Legend.

The first film landed in 1998, and was the first really to get the greenlight in the aftermath of the success of Scream. A trilogy of films followed, although 2005’s Urban Legends: Bloody Mary was a straight to DVD venture. Oscar-winning editor John Ottman directed the second film, Mary Lambert helmed the third, whilst Jamie Blanks steered the original.

The new film won’t be involving any of them, though, with a reboot underway that’s set to be written and directed by What Keeps You Alive helmer Colin Minihan.

Furthermore, Sydney Chandler and Katherine McNamara are said to be in talks to headline the new movie, which suggests that it’s motoring along at speed. No release date news as of yet, just that the new film will follow an urban legend spreading on the internet.

More as we hear it.
