The Vanishing – the good one – is getting a new Blu-ray release

If you’re in the mood for a dark and memorable thriller, then 1988’s The Vanishing is finally getting a new disc reissue in the UK.

Oh crikey. We’re loathed to tell you too much about director George Sluizer’s The Vanishing – or Spoorloos in it original Dutch – one of the most haunting thrillers of the 1980s. It was infamously remade in the US by the same director (Kiefer Sutherland, Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock starred in that version), but that’s very much a film to steer very clear of. For reasons, again, that we don’t want to spoil.

If you’ve not seen the original and you have the appetite for a tough thriller that’ll stay in your head, then we’ve now learned that StudioCanal is reissuing the movie for the first time in ages on disc in the UK. It’ll be released on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK on June 8th 2020, just a few weeks away.

What we don’t have at the moment are details of any extra features for the release, and as and when we get that information, we’ll pass it on. For now, though, the film – in either format – is available to preorder right here.
