Plans remain afoot for a Walking Dead movie, and a new update has surfaced.
The television juggernaut The Walking Dead may not get the ratings it once attracted, but it’s still a huge show for AMC, and one that’s generated spin-off series too. There’s been word for a while of a movie take on the show as well, and as it turns out, that’s still very much in the works.
The movie is set to focus on Andrew Lincoln’s character from the show, Rick Grimes. Lincoln left the series a year or two back, but as Scott M Gimple – the man charged with overseeing the direction of The Walking Dead screen franchise – has now told Entertainment Weekly, “we are going to continue to tell Rick’s story, and we are going to discover so much of the world through that story”.
Gimple teased that “Rick will be challenged in different ways that, in some ways, everything that he’s been through has sort of prepared him for. It’s a much larger world than one that he had been operating in, and that was challenging in and of itself”.
That said, don’t expect the film to happen just yet. Gimple added that the film will go in some “wild new directions” and absolutely won’t just be the television series on a bigger screen. “We’re trying to be very deliberate and deliver something new”, he said, but as things stand, the script is currently being put together, and no director is known.
More news on this one as we get it. We’d just be surprised if we hear it soon.
